Information

A new frieze has been completed alongside the existing one, with a red and white striped barcode. When decoded, it reads 'Eggenburg town hall urban renewal Hauptplatz 2000' in German. Images mounted in filled-in windows show the redesigned main square in course-pixelled grey screen prints.

In front of an already existing frieze decoration the artist mounted a continuous strip with a red and white striped marking line. This line (the construction of aluminium rails juts out slightly) circumscribes the room right over the windows like a frame. The line pattern can be deciphered and reads as the following: RATHAUS EGGENBURG STADTERNEUERUNG HAUPTPLATZ 2000 (Town Hall Eggenburg Town Renewal Main Square 2000). In keeping with the programmatic thrust of this strip, there are pictures mounted in the five blind windows of the hall. They depict motifs taken from the newly designed main square dissolved in a grid of coarsely pixelled gray shade. As virtual windows they are juxtaposed with the real view of the town in the row of windows and keep alive a discussion on the town and its renewal in the year 2000. The design integrates lighting, a dimming system as well as measures for improved acoustics as well as sitting possibilities so that the space is well furnished as a multi-functional platform.
