Information

The rooms of the primary school were designed by the artists together with the students. The children sketched life-sized figures, which were transferred onto plywood plates and painted with acrylic paint. The plates were mounted onto the walls.

The task put before the artists was to redesign the rooms of the primary school together with the children of grade 2 to 4. As it turned out the changing room was as yet scarcely decorated with coats stands in the middle of the room. The room itself is slightly below ground and built into the slope behind. As there are no windows which would allow a look outside, we opted for extensive wall decorations. We read books to the children in different classes and asked them to create life-sized figures from the stories they had heard. They sketched their ideas onto paper and then cut out the shapes. These shapes were transferred onto plywood, we cut them out and the children sanded down the edges. We primed the figures and the
children painted them with acrylic paint. The students were very enthusiastic about their work and proud of it. The finished figures were screwed onto plywood plates varnished with monochrome paint. The plates were then mounted onto the walls of the changing room, transforming the sober closed off room into a multicoloured, vibrant concatenation of coats, shoes, exercize kit, animals and ghosts.
