Information

A memorial was erected in Hammerpark for the commemorative year of 1988 that stands as a symbol for the historical breakdown of events and the ensuing paucity of culture and ideas in Austria as a result of what happened in 1938. This artwork is dedicated to all of the Nazis' victims.

The memorial by Kupelwieser is emblematic for a sacrificial bowl. The sculture is accessible via an opening and is 2m high, with a diameter of 4m. The inside is intended as a space for meditation. The height of 2m is sufficient to screen off any disturbing influences, the view upwards is open to the sky and trees. At eye-height only the light streams in through 13 openings representing the resistance fighters. The names of these victims can be read beneath the openings.
