Information

'Die Entdeckung der Korridore' (The Discovery of the Corridor) by the artist duo is a staged archaeology of driving with a contemporary cultural artefact, the Autobahn buried in the ground. It is the first of several projects in the countryside near Paasdorf.

The prehistory of Entdeckung der Korridore (The Discovery of the Corridors) began in 1987/88 with Kunst. Natur. Technik, a project organised by Aktion M of the Kulturbundes Weinviertel: a landscape area near Mistelbach was chosen and marked out as the designated place for an artistic event. What was intended was a sensitive correction of the landscape, yet one which retained the balance of art and nature; what was expected was landscape design in the widest sense. The artists delivered their models and these were exhibited and documented in a catalogue. There were also accompanying symposia. It was at first not possible to actually implement the projects. It was not until 1993 that the organisers resumed work on the project. Entdeckung der Korridore was selected from all the models to become the first object to be implemented. Together with a comprehensive framework programme, entitled Autobahn und Medien (Motorways and the Media) it was opened in September 1995 and was documented in a book of the same name. Entdeckung der Korridore stages an archaeology of driving and buries the cultural form of the road, the motorway, in the ground.
