Information

The perimeter of a (mathematical) figure is its extent, describing an arena for activity. This was the town of Waidhofen, which is understood as a spatial-social system of relationships and, physically measured as urban space, links the conceptual and the imaginary. In individual places the six projects intervened in what happened in the town that was in many ways the starting point and the theme being addressed. For the concrete site-specifity addressed a process of history and participation, because our spaces were often empty but one's memory is full and alive. To this extent, the individual projects reintroduced space for activity whether as a model, idealistically or in real terms.

Max Boehme

without title

The painting, which is always a place of the imaginary and of memory, by Max Boehme communicates the style and decay of the mayor's little garden ('Bürgermeistergart'l'). Even though situated in the middle of the local centre, this poetic little garden was hardly used and excluded from urban life. The painting retrieved it again from the annuls of history and gave it a new dimension between landscape and volume.

Richard Fleissner

"Treibriementafeln“

Richard Fleissner's nine panels, illustrate the history of a production with hammer, nails and fan-belts that is also Waidhofen's in seven places. This production may have come to an end but it was revived and lived in the images in new forms. These were mounted on the facades of buildings and walls like old signs, graphically playing back the history of the town.

Irene Kar

"man"

In contrast to the beautified image of fashion and advertising, Irene Kar pursued the real fashion worn by men in Waidhofen by documenting details of men's clothing or also particular styles in a series of photographs. A selection of these were mounted onto photographic foil in the upper windows of a men's fashion store, which she contrasted as a different story with the lower display.

PRINZGAU/podgorschek

"Trompe-l'oeil"

The Forellenbrunnen is one of the centres of Waidhofen, one that after years of being avoided actually became a centre again due to the intervention by PRINZGAU/podgorschek which consisted of a construction upon which people can sit. Between the rotating water and urban life space was created between outside and inside.

Andrea Van der Straeten

"Haus der Kälte"

The history of Waidhofen as a film centre was worked into the presentation of the story behind Andrea van der Straeten's film 'Haus der Kälte' (House of Cold), to be read every week in 'Boten von der Ybbs' (The Ybbs Messenger) throughout the run of the exhibition. Posters around the town drew attention to the film.

Katharina Struber, Thomas Ochoa

"Im Augenblick"

At the end of the square stood the white tower by Struber/Thomas Ochoa, the orange roof of which reflected the light for a long way. As a counterpoint to the historic exhibition here the moment was being addressed when one rose above the town, not just creating different perspectives but also an additional new space. Was the tower for surveillance or the anti-pillory, was the raised space a private-public utopia?
