Information

The iron sculpture 'Verwicklung' is a response to the particularities of the natural setting, entering into a dialogue with it. Well known for her objects and assemblages of found everyday objects, the artist first began to make rangy sculptures out of wire and tubes in the middle of the 1990s.

Of Elisabeth Homar’s work, the small-format objects, collages, assemblages are well-known. The artist has assembled these pieces from what she finds in the everyday world, from civilisatory debris. By linking and changing these objects in an unexpected way, she reveals poetic layers of banal, 'poor' materials, Here creative play brings forth miniature scenarious informed by a cheerful beauty and accompanied by ironic-enigmatic titles that often include autobiographical aspects. About two years ago, Elisabeth Homar began creating sculptures with iron wire and pipes – subtle structures that had been painted or had incorporated the process of corrosion as a subtle, expressive quality of the material. As opposed to the small-format "Kunst-Stücke" that played with manifold narrative and associative allusions (Art – Pieces - 1987 exhibition title) the iron sculpture "Verwicklung" (Implication) of 1996 thrives entirely from the abstract, more musical, dance-like than narrative play of the orange-red spatial line. Only the simple materiality of the industrially manufactured pipe material recalls her earlier objects. Elisabeth Homar does not let herself be tempted to create an art in nature situation in the landscape around Tautendorf. The general dynamic form of her sculpture reacts like a dialogue to the specificities of the given topography and vegetation without blurring or obscuring the boundaries between nature and artifact.
