Information

'Projekt 2' is an extension of a project dating from 1989. In the extending section of a row of objects the artists have created a kind of concluding zone on the façade where the formal themes are repeated as fragments one last time with materials like clinker brickwork or steel piping.

Our "art on a public building" project at Gerasdorf/Kapellerfeld, carried out in 1995, is an addition to and extension of the 1989 project. We created an extension of a long row of buildings in relation to the two existing constructions, the primary school and the kindergarten located right behind it. We tried to take up the formal idiom of the two very different buildings, to reformulate, vary and contrast it, using a rich diversity of materials ranging from clinker to the rusting structural steel pipes. We used the colour quality of rust unaware of how striking its aesthetic effect would be.
In our extension, the situation was different to the extent that we could also directly influence the design of the façade. We thus created a sort of final area in which we once again fragmentarily quoted the formal issues that had been addressed and arranged them in a rhythmic way. It was an ideal situation that we had good communication with the architect. However, the 'out-of-the-ordinary' design also entailed problems with the workmen.
