Norbert Maringer :
Hohlweg

Back
Loosdorf, 1997

Information

The artwork 'Hohlweg' links the sculptures, which stand outside Winkelau sculpture park in Loosdorf. The excavated area is a metre wide and accessible. Its depth varies, whereby it is at its deepest (1.3m) in the middle of two sculptures.

The artwork was removed because of structural alteration works.

First it was still to be a fence that was to enclose the sculpture garden in the Winkelau in Loosdorf and would also complete the project. This certainly conventional idea was given up in favour of Nobert Maringer’s "Hohlweg", the concept of which also included a summary but did not simply make do with the edge. It also provided for digging up the earth from the center outward. Given recent experience, the activities launched by mayor Nagl have been carried out with greater resolution. The "Hohlweg" links the individual sculptures on a meter wide path which varies in depth. The greatest depth (1.3 meters) lies between two sculptures. Like a natural catastrophe (and subjected as such to natural decay and change) Maringer's piece hits the other existing works. At the same time, however, it is an autonomous installation that one can walk on, integrating the static objects in its dynamic and enriching them with a sort of performative dimension.
